In Texas, whitening runs under a dentist

Texas law counts the "removal of stains" from teeth, done "by any means," as the practice of dentistry.

The Texas State Board of Dental Examiners has used that line twice in a year. In October 2024 and March 2025 it ordered whitening businesses to stop, because they ran without a supervising dentist.

The state's beauty licensing office sends whitening questions to the dental board, not to cosmetology.

So a Dallas salon should not run whitening on its own. A med spa or studio that works under a licensed dentist's supervision can use this system, and its team can take this course.
