In Texas, whitening needs a dentist

Texas law says a person practices dentistry if they perform, "by any means," the "removal of stains" from teeth.

The Texas dental board uses that line. In March 2025 it ordered a whitening business to stop, because it offered whitening "without a dental license or the supervision of a licensed dentist." It made the same order against another whitening business in October 2024.

The state beauty office sends every whitening question to the dental board.

So do not run whitening in a Texas salon on its own. It belongs under a licensed dentist's supervision. If your med spa or studio already works with a supervising dentist, the light, the kits and the course are built for you.
