30,460 beauty workers on a payroll in the LA area
The government counts 10,910 hairdressers, 15,050 manicurists and 4,500 skincare specialists working for a business in the Los Angeles, Long Beach and Anaheim area. That count is from May 2025. People who work for themselves are not in it, so the real number is bigger.
Hairdressers there earn $54,290 a year on average. A whitening chair with four clients a week keeps $25,178 a year after kits. That is nearly half a stylist's pay, from about four hours a week.
What a client pays for whitening in LA today: SX Studioz near Downtown lists $120 for a session. Jminklashes Beauty Bar in Bell Gardens lists $150 for an hour. The Gleamery in West Hollywood, which runs on a supervising dentist, starts at $349. A salon hour at $149 sits right in the middle.
Los Angeles is a city of 3,869,089 people, by the Census estimate for July 2025. The professional beauty trade meets every winter just down the road, at Premiere Anaheim.
